I found these chips in a local grocery store. Soaked two handfuls for 30 minutes in water, threw them on the charcoal grill, no nonsense smoke for about 10 minutes. I'd say they gave a medium smoke flavor with a heavy smoke scent.
The chips themselves were very rough, various shapes, and sizes ranging everywhere between 1/4 inch flakes to 2 inch long hunks. I did find a few pieces with some bark on them, but not too many.
The package is just what you see, a cardboard box stapled shut, no inner liner or plastic bag. The cardboard is the same thickness as, say, a box for cookies or crackers. Which makes for good protection on the store shelf but problematic to fold over and stay shut. I actually dumped all of mine into a gallon freezer bag.
If the pieces were more uniform and the box could close (lid) I'd give 5 stars.

Wood smoke adds to the mystique of outdoor cooking and gathers people around the fire. Adding wood chips and chunks to the grill boosts the flavor of any grilled food. On charcoal grills wood chips can be used directly on the hot coals. Wood chunks can even be used instead of coals. On gas grills add smoky flavor with the use of a smoker box for smoking wood chips. Mesquite is a classic in smoking. Its strong, rich flavor works well with beef and chicken.
